Young Brothers Tae Kwon-Do Associates was founded by Grand Master Young Il  Kong,  9th Dan and his brothers.  He is one of the original pioneers of Tae Kwon Do.  The following biography tells more about his life and his teaching philosophy.

Grand Master Kong, Young Il was the Tae Kwon Do All Star Team Captain at
Kyung Hee University, S. KOREA in 1963. He was in the Republic of Korea Army from 1964 to 1968 where he was again the Tae Kwon Do All Star Team Captain. During those years, he was also the first Master Instructor to Introduce Tae Kwon Do Martial Art to the 8th US Army in Korea.

During 1963 to 1980, Grand Master Kong travelled around the world with General Choi Hong Hi (Founder of Tae Kwon Do), as a selected member of an International Tae Kown Do demonstration team. He visited 127 countries performing demonstrations to introduce Tae Kwon Do Martial Art to the world. After each demonstration there was an open invitation/challenge to the public to fight any demonstration team member. Grand Master Kong fought martial artists of all kinds in 127 countries and never lost a fight.

Throughout 1980 to present, Grand Master Kong opened TKD Dojangs from East Coast to West Coast of USA as well as Puerto Rico and taught TKD Martial Art to thousands of practitioners. Quite a few of his students became champions around the world. One noteworthy highlight was his being Master Instructor for the USA government agency, the FBI.

Grand Master Kong, Young Bo, 9th Dan

Grand Master Kong, Young Bo began his training at the age of 5.  While in college he established himself as one of Korea's best fighters.  He later moved to the United States where with his elder and younger brothers and established a chain of Tae Kwon Do schools which became "Young Brothers Tae Kwon Do Associates".

He became the Pan Am Grand Champion in 1973.  North American Grand Champion in 1974; and in 1976 World Middleweight Champion.  He has been featured in many martial arts magazines including "Black Belt Magazine" on several occasions and has been referred to as the "fastest kicker alive" (Black Belt magazine, April 2001).

Grand Master Kong, Young Bo has trained many professional athletes such as: Terry Long, Franko Harris, John Kolb, Greg Loyd and Rob Woodson.

Young Brothers Tae Kwon Do Cypress is proud to be part of this association and to have Grand Master Kong lead our black belt testing process twice each year.  It is always an honor and privilege to test in his presence, to absorb the wisdom of his words, knowing that he is maintaining the integrity of the art within the association, as it was intended by it's founder, General Choi.
